About Richard

I was born in Great Falls, Montana while my father (Richard, Sr.) was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base as a Military Policeman patrolling the missile silos located on base. My family returned to New Hampshire after his service was completed to live in the Lakes Region area of New Hampshire before finally settling in Belmont, NH with my mother (Carol) and twin brother and sister (Kevin and Kathy). My family moved to Lebanon, NH after my father took a job with the city of Lebanon, NH as Chief of the Fire and Police dispatcher unit. I soon graduated from Lebanon High School and became captain of both the Math and Baseball teams during my senior year. I was awarded an academic scholarship to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and now live in Hartland, Vermont with my wife Kelly and our cat (Jitterbug or JB as we call her).
My family is my pride and joy and I try to spend as much time with them as possible (when not in tax season).

Business Philosophy
My business philosophy is boiled down into two maxims:
1) “Pigs get fat – hogs get slaughtered” – To me, this deals with the black and white issues in accounting and tax. I am in favor of being a pig, fat and happy, taking the available tax deductions and minimizing tax liability. Going into the black means being a hog and violating the rules. Hogs eventually get slaughtered by some third party entity and end up paying the price in penalties and interest. In between is the gray area in which I assess risk to help businesses and individuals decide the best route for them.
2) “I do not let tax considerations override a solid financial decision” – Taxes are only a percentage of the profits that your business and/or individual tax returns report. If it makes sense to buy or sell, we look at the cash impact to you first while taking into account the tax ramifications. It is my goal to provide you with the knowledge to make the best decision for your situation.
